Q: What's the purpose of this web site?

A: ChessOpeningsSoftware.com supports chess players using Chess Openings Wizard for Windows. There is a free version (Lite) for students. The site allows all members to download upgrades at any time from any computer without any kind of serial number or copy protection.

The site includes a forum of experts on chess database software and other resources for players who are designing opening repertoires and strengthening their game.

Q: What is Chess Openings Wizard?

A: Chess Openings Wizard is software for Windows that helps you design and learn opening theory fast.

COW replaces the Bookup line of programs (Bookup 2000 Professional, Express and Lite). The name of the company is still "Bookup."

Q: Will I be able to upgrade from Bookup?

A: Yes. Your upgrade will be free if you purchased in the last six months. Bookup 2000 Express owners get Chess Openings Wizard Express.

Bookup 2000 Professional owners will get Chess Openings Wizard Professional. If you purchased longer than six months ago, you'll get an offer for an upgrade via email. Chess Openings Wizard Express will be $47. Chess Openings Wizard Professional will be $127. Chess Openings Wizard Lite is free.

Q: I own Bookup 2000 Professional. Should I consider the Express membership?

A: No. While nothing stops you from purchasing an Express membership, you will be more interested in the Professional membership.

Q: How is "membership" related to the "programs?"

A: They are tied together. A free membership allows you access to the Lite version of Chess Openings Wizard. An Express membership entitles you to download the Express version of Chess Openings Wizard. As a member you can download the latest version at any time.

Q: What does the software require?

A: Chess Openings Wizard requires Windows XP, 2000 or Vista and 512MB RAM. It has not been tested on (and is not recommended for) previous versions of Windows.
