|
|
In order to get from behind the intrusive Chess Assistent 10 loading image, I resized an ebook window so far that less than half of the chess board was still visible. The left most column width was smaller than half the minimal chess board width. The middle resize bar was gone, as if it was hidden behind other parts. Closing and opening of the e-book works but does not change anything. Full screen works, but does not help.
As it was the e-book was unusable.
Now after messing around a bit the chess board for some reason it had shrunk further and I had now access to 5,5 colums and 3 navigation buttons. That gave me the idea to maximize screen resolution and indeed, after an increase to 1680x1050 the middle resize bar reappeared. I suspect that bar was trapped to the right of the chess board and increasing the resolution widened the column allowing for the bar to reappear.
After backing up my e-book I tried to cause the problem again and indeed, the middle vertical resize bar was gone, but the left colums could be widened by dragging the leftmost resize bar farther to the left. However, the e-book window cannot be wider than the desktop and if it is already that wide it cannot be made any wider. The right resize bar (the one at the right of the e-book window) is programmed to do nothing when window width is maximal and the left one is does nothing when the left colums is minimized. Hence in such circumstance none of the vertical resize bars work and width of the window and the colums can no longer be changed. Increasing the screen resolution gives extra breathing width and allows to escape the deadlock.
That seems to qualify as a bug. It should be easy to fix e.g. by changing the functionality of the right resize bar, although a thorough fix would imo include preventing the middle resize bar from being hidden.
Edit : corrected left between ( ... ) into right _________________ Be careful what you wish for. it might come true

Whenever I encounter this type of problem I close COW and then delete the .3PR file for the eBook and start COW again. This restores the original configuration.

If you have not gone with jott27's prescription yet, why not try this safe, approved method.
I would like to know if a reset to Factory Defaults actually resolves your problem, so I hope you can try this and let me know. _________________ Nothing livens up this forum better than a little bit of humor.

Unfortunately the 'Factory Reset' option will also reset all other settings as well. This is in general not very desirable.

Can you demonstrate that the "Factory Reset" option resets anything that is not also reset by deleting the .3PR file?
If not, it seems reckless to advise deletion of an eBook's file when a programmer provided option exists.
In any case,
- COW runs best with minimal changes to the defaults
- substantial changes to the defaults promote program instability - there is a long history of examples
- minimal changes are easily implemented again after restoring the default setting
If restoring the factory defaults gives Amoranemix a cure for his problem, it is the preferred answer for Bookup Support to provide. If Amoranemix should report back that this preferred approach does not work, something unconventional may be needed. _________________ Nothing livens up this forum better than a little bit of humor.

My Diagram Preference is 'Zurich-high res'
Factory default is 'Linares-high res'
Deleteing .3PR leaves my selection undesturbed. Factory Reset will change it.

Thanks for your responses.
The 'Factory Defaults' button seems to reset only the parameters in the '2D Diagram Preferences' window and does not change e-book specific parameters. It does not work.
Deleting the 3PR file works.
I can find that solution nor the one with changing the screen resolution in the help. People should be able to use a program without knowing any more than what is in the help. In addition the behaviour of especially the rightmost resize bar can imo be improved. _________________ Be careful what you wish for. it might come true |
