When troubleshooting computer problems one should try to eliminate as many as possible suspected causes. Faulty memory is just one of them.
Chances are very low that you have a faulty memory, but I would like you to be very sure of this.
A memory test has to be run at least several hours, preferably over night.
Better save than sorry.
The execution of Bookup/COW depends on the integrity of the files it is opening. Most other programs don't suffer from this affliction (e.g. Photo editing, Word processors, etc) and are therefore less affected.

As already said on the forum, I performed a RAM checking, actually with the program Memtest, which is different from Memtest 86.
The program didn't find any problem on my two computers.
The difference with Memtest86 is that the program (in its free version) doesn't use a boot CD-Rom, what means that the computer starts through the Bios which uses part of the RAM, part that can't be checked by the program.
I installed now Memtest 86, burning the image on a CD-Rom and tested it
shortly on my deskcomputer. It works, and I will start the program
tonight on my desktop, tomorrow night on my laptop.
But, to be honest, based on my tests with the other program, I don't
think that the problem of the corrupted book has something to do with
the RAM. |
